Melkam Genna Pic

First and foremost-Melkam Genna!  It is the year 2006 in the Ethiopian calendar, and the entire country is celebrating!  Parades, fancy umbrellas, gifts of clothing, singing, dancing, and feasting.  Sounds OK to me.

We’re going to do a few things to celebrate this year, but we sure hope it’s a much bigger celebration next year with a kiddo who can fill us in on how it’s really done!

With that in mind, today I’ve been focusing on this:

That one present on the right-it’s the last present around the house since the Christmas festivities have ended.  And, it’s his.  It’s nothing big.  But when you already have this kid in your heart, it feels wrong not to include him in the celebration.  When we pack up “Christmas” after Genna tomorrow, it’s not going in the box.  I’m keeping it out, where we can see it and remember that there is a piece of our family missing, but coming.  Thousands of miles away, but here in our hearts.

This humble gift-wrapped box represents something major to me: Hope.  Hope for him, that his time as an orphan is limited.  Hope for our family, that “A” is our family’s missing piece.  Hope for me, that I am going to see God move mountains and make the sun stand still so that we can get to “A.”

Thankful for the anchor that will sustain us, and our kiddo across the ocean, through this incredibly long wait.  Thankful we have an anchor that we can trust to do what’s best for everyone in our family, however near or far.
